Lonely Road





I think these paintings by Soutine are amongst the most moving works of art of the Twentieth Century. I can hear the wind in them.

These are extraordinarily beautiful paintings and I concur with your comment about hearing the wind as you look at them - but as I said about your recent barrio drawings, I am a sucker for pictures with children in them - at least ones that do not treat children sentimentally. For example, Picasso's drawing of his son in a harlequin's outfit is utterly charming without recourse to "cuteness".
