And with her face alone she was also very intense - a long time since I saw this film, but the impression is still strong. Here's a couple of pictures of her.
At first I didn't think that was authentic because the image quality is much better than most anything else that survives from that time.
But IMDB does list "Afgrunden".
Yes it is Asta Nielsen for real. I've seen this extract (and I have a copy) in a film about Scandinavian cinema. She was amazing!
