Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861)

This drawing looks like a Ronald Searle avant-la lettre

Today I saw an exhibition of Utagawa Kuniyoshi in The Royal Academy. I find no words to express HOW MUCH I LOVED THESE PRINTS! I felt in complete awe and I want to become Japanese to be able to draw with such grace and dexterity!
Can you imagine that this man was a contemporary of Goya, Beethoven, Marx and Darwin!!!!!!!! If you live in London I urge you not to miss it.

  2. If you keep at it you'll be able to draw like a Japanese master before you're 90!

  3. It is possible that if some japanese master lived long enough could end drawing like Ms. Chau.
