Good question, Kellie. Glaser was born in 1929 and studied in Bologna with Giorgio Morandi. Caufield was born in 1936 and studied at the Chelsea S. of A. I like Caufield but I believe he was very heavily influenced by Italian Valerio Adami, whom I think is a superior artist. Adami was born and studied art in Bologna. Did Glaser met him? Did they see each other's work? Is Patrick Caufield REALLY dead. Was Morandi colour blind? Is Adami a frustrated graphic designer? Only God knows
Valerio Adami I hadn't seen before, but rushed off to look him up - yes, lovely, warm, exciting, lively and evocative. A different level.
Caulfield's work I bump into rather than seek out. It's hard to miss. Even the slab at the cemetery. Not shy and retiring. Gives the big-headed monument at the far corner a run for its money.
Ooh lovely! I do like the more nuttily obsessive Pre-Raphaelites, but my interest trails off when it gets too sweet and fairytale-ish, Burne Jones &c. At that point I go back to proper illustrators.

Both of them made a good living as Athena Posters to decorate Chiswick's semi-detacheds.....
