It's amazing!! It looks incredibly realistic. For some strange reason, from the legs to the neck looks almost a real person, but when you get to the head, you instantly know it's a painting. Am I the only one who noticed this?
Velazquez was the master of the "free stroke". Painted very loosely and with boldness. The effect of realism is quite strong but it is painted with great expressive style. Three followers of the great man used that technique to a great effect: Edouard Manet, John Singer Sargent and Giovanni Boldini.
